Flash CS4 slow and unresponsive
I have recently upgraded my operating system to the brand new Windows 7. After installation of Creative Suite 4 (when there was nothing else installed except Antivirus and Winamp) I started Flash as a first application to continue working on one of my projects. Sadly I noticed that everything is extremely slow, even when typing code, the editor became just unresponsive and came back to life after few seconds... Everytime when clicking on any of the buttons from Flash panels, there was about 2-3 seconds delay.
Later on I found that this affects also other CS4 applications. The whole package was just unusable.
I started searching on internet, thinking that now is a good couple of month since Windows 7 was issued so this must have been fixed long time ago. Unfortunately I couldn't find too many people complaining about the same problem. After a while I found the culprit. People love to blame poor Micro$oft for everything (including me), but it has turned out that the reason for the slowness was Kaspersky Internet Security.
Along with updating operating system, I installed the latest Kaspersky Internet Security in version 9. When I paused the protection I noticed that Flash is back to normal in terms of speed. So I told myself, well, that must be it. When searching internet again I realised happily that I wasn't the only one with this problem. There is a whole thread about this issue on both Adobe and Kaspersky forums.
The simplest solution isn't fortunately to disable AV (what would be equal to have no antivirus at all at the time of working with CS4) but to disable the thing called External Service Control. To do that, open Kaspersky Internet Security console, click on Settings (right top corner), click on Options and select "Disable external service control".
What is this, do I need that at all? Kaspersky help archive says: "Disable external service control: If this box is checked, any remote administration program attempting to use the program will be blocked". I won't be able to start/stop antivirus using net start/stop avp. It may be useful in corporate environment, but I can surely carry on without it on home PC. By the way, isn't it funny that this small little feature of KIS slows down other apps?
There is a discussion about that on Kaspersky forum: http://forum.kaspersky.com/index.php?showtopic=143229.
